Nick's Computer Works Sturgis
2007 (sort of)
As we pulled into Ft Collins the weather was just turning ugly. We reached the Best Western Kiva just as the sprinkles started. We entered the hotel Kiva and it looked pretty nice. In fairness to them, the inside was very clean and comfortable. The outside was less than desirable. As I checked in, I quickly deduced that "Kiva" is a middle eastern term meaning "blank stare". As in, "Oh, may we please have rooms on the same side of the hotel as we are your only guests?" This was greeted with a blank stare. Or, "hey, your coke machine does not work, do you have a second machine on another floor?" Blank stare. "Hey, do you know where we can buy some more rain gear?" Blank stare. No matter what the question, you are greeted with a blank "cow eyed" stare. Except of course when asking about a good place to eat. Quickly they point to the next door Char Broiler steak house. I later use my skills of deducing to figure out that this steak house rated so highly by the hotel owners must also be owned by them. Do not eat at the Ft Collins Char Broiler restaurant. We went back to our rooms just as the rain came. And I mean rain. The eleven o'clock report stated that it was the worst rain / flood in many, many years. Nick II went out after about 15 minutes of rain to put his brand new bike under the shelter so as not to chance hurting any of the many electronics on the bike and he was already treading through knee deep water! The next morning a few of the customers found that their cars were in fact NOT water tight. One customer tried to blame the hotel owners for the rain. That was humorous. All in all, I am certain that Ft Collins has it good points, we just happened in at the wrong place and wrong time. Next: Durango, CO. Click here for pictures
