Mount Rushmore is more than you can ever imagine. The pictures that you see in the books do not do justice to this incredible sight! I cannot put into words just how fantastic this work of art is! Added to the incredible sight, the awesome tours, and the great personel, they don't allow dogs!! Imagine finally finding somewhere that you don't have to see or hear someone treating their mutt like it is some kind of God! Sorry dog lovers, leave your dog at home, not everyone finds your stinky mutt or the mess it makes beautiful. Oh yeah, PETA, how about Michael Vick for President??

Ok, back to Rushmore. It took 14 years of carving with jack hammers and dynamite to complete this project! Borglum himself while overseeing the carving would have to "back up" five miles to see the work to make sure it was coming out right! Each President depicted in the statue played a very important part of America's history. Washington being the first President. Thomas Jefferson doubled the size of the United States with the Louisiana Purchase (the only President to spend money without congress' approval - illegal). Teddy Roosevelt gave us the Square Deal. And of course Abe Lincoln gave us the Emancipation Proclamation and the 13th Amendment. After you have visited this awesome sight, be sure to come back at 9pm to see the "lighting of the mountain". While viewing a one hour film on American history on an outside movie screen, the mountain is slowly lighting up until the finale that has the entire work of art lit up against the black sky! It is one of the most moving moments that you will ever experience!
