The view from our room

We headed north for 240 miles on the I-15 to Mesquite, Nevada. I wanted the first leg of the trip to be short to see how Charla would handle it. She did great!

The weather was very hot, in the triple digits all the way, hence the warning of good sun block. We stopped a few times along the way for water and still made the ride in a little over three and a half hours.

While in Mesquite for the night, we had an incredible dinner at he Casa Blanca buffet. Their buffet - in my opinion - has always been right up there with the "big guys" like Belagio and MGM Grand. They have always gone all out with the prime rib, shrimp, and other quality foods. Their breakfast buffet is also good, but the dinner is the best. The hotel itself is a little more expensive than the others in Mesquite, but still very cheap. The little extra money is well worth it. The rooms and surroundings are - again in my opinion - newer, cleaner, and better than their competitor's.

We did go over to the Virgin River Hotel for a round of bowling. We took the free shuttle which was a nice touch. Beware of the time schedule for the shuttle. Although the shuttle runs about every 20 minutes, when we were there, there was no shuttle from 8:30 pm until 9:30 pm. No problem except that from the Virgin River back to the Casa Blanca there was no shuttle from 9:30 pm to 10:30 pm. This meant an hour wait for us to go back to our hotel. We had assumed that the schedules would be the same from all the hotels, but this was not the case. Anyway, we had a blast bowling for the first time in probably fifteen years. It was obvious that none of us will be on the professional circuit in the near future! Then back to our rooms for a good night's sleep.
